Service Center - Totally automatic machining for the saw blade service industry.

Fully automatic resharpening

For many progressive sharpening service providers, the days when saw blades were individually machined are well and truly past. With the advent of automatic sequence management in multiple-shift operation, a whole new concept has opened up for improved economy. This system has to comply with a range of stringent demands:

  • Fully automatic machining processes
  • Consistently highstandard of quality
  • Short machining times
  • Flexible sequence management
  • Differing saw blade diameters
  • Machinign saw blades for cutting wood, plastics, steel and non-ferrous metals
  • Scope for future upgrading
  • Facility for program update

Vollmer is a specialist of many decades' standing in the sharpening of carbide-tipped saw blades, and offers the most comprehensive machine range for top quality grinding results. We are familiar with our customers' conditions and needs, and view our role as that of a supporting partner. We work together with our customers to develop individual solutions which play a decisive role in improving the economy.

Completely automatic machining plus maximum flexibility

Behind the Service Center is a superior machine concept designed to ensure automatic, high-speed, precise and consequently economical, machining of carbide-tipped circular saw blades, around the clock, at a consistently high standard of quality.

The Service Center permits such flexible use that it can be customised precisely to your requirements; with 2, 3, 5 or 7 loading carriages for machining between 50 and 300 saw blades; with one or two processing machines and also a combination unit for carbide-tipped and HSS saw blades.

The individual machines and components conform to the highest standard of excellence: CNC axes with highly dynamic drive systems, Vollmer's own developed PMC multiprocessor control, simple operation by intelligent, practically-oriented software programs, a high safety specification, and a range of sophisticated features for safeguarding all machine functions in unmanned operation.

All these features make the Service Center an ideal machining concept for professional saw blade servicing, with either large or small volumes of work. The Service Center goes on working for you without supervision, even after working hours. The great degree of independence that this affords means more free time which can be profitably used elsewhere.

Intelligent control, simple operation

Control desk with LCD colour display and simple operator prompting.

For such versatile application, the Service Center relies not only on its CNC controlled axes but also on the industrial-standard PMC multiprocessing control system, developed by Vollmer.

Simple systems for the acquistion, storage and accessing of saw blade data are instrumental in determining the degree of economy. Saw blades with differing outside and bore diameters and different tooth geometries are quickly and simply entered into the system. The LCD colour display, with its simple system of user prompting, is identical at both the control desk and at the data input station.

Vollmer has demonstrated just how simple data input can be. Because a lot of thought was given to operating simplicity as early as the software development stage, only a minimum of data needs to be entered. The user is supported through the program by a graphic prompting system. this simple operating system saves many of the elaborate peparatory steps which were previously required, gaining additional time. The colour display also provides important information on the current operating and functional status.

Flexible, fast, precise - the CHD 251 R2 automatic grinding machine

The CHD 251 R2 automatic grinding machine with robot capability is a focal module of the Service Center and is instrumental in ensuring outstanding grinding performance. Just some of the benefits:
five CNC axes control bevel grinding, grinding wheel feed, the grinding path, tooth feed and saw infeed carriage, and additional axis governs the hook and clearance angle. This provides the ideal foundation for efficient grinding of complex tooth geometries at the face and top in a single pass.
Carefully considered and implemented down to the last detail

The Service Center complies with the most stringent demands of stability, precision and functionality down to the last detail as the essential precondition to first-class results. The individual assemblies are precisely coordinated to requirements whilst at the same time, offering outstanding service access. This is the solid foundation for the high standard of all Vollmer grinding machines over many decades. A few interesting possibilities and benefits:

  • Each saw blade is automatically traversed to the stop position and positioned precisely.
  • Grinding saw blades with different tooth pitches or with group toothing.
  • The stable blade clamping system affords generous clearance to the front enabling easy blade handling.
  • The automatical grinding wheel measuring and compensation device.
  • Additional grinding device for precise, symmetrical hollow tooth grinding.

Each loading carriage can accommodate around 50 carbide-tipped bladeswith different diameters and tooth geometries.
